Narrative and systematic reviews
A narrative review can organize concepts and explain a field; a systematic review seeks to answer a question through explicit search, selection and synthesis methods. The label does not replace appraisal. What matters is which sources could enter, which were excluded, how they were assessed and whether the conclusion respects the included designs and results.
A reading case: what to check
For a specific claim, use the review as a map and also open relevant primary studies. If its search is unexplained, do not describe it as a complete evidence inventory. If it contains quantitative synthesis, inspect comparability and heterogeneity before adopting the average. A clear summary is valuable, but does not make every cited study equally strong.
