What changes when a study is retracted

Which conclusions in my record depended on the retracted paper?

A retraction changes a source's status and requires reviewing claims that depended on it. The notice may concern data reliability, conduct or other reasons; read it before describing the cause. Removing a citation from a list is insufficient if its conclusion remains in the text or another review incorporated it as evidence without acknowledging the change.

Imagine a mechanism on a reference page relied mainly on a retracted study. Trace each claim to its sources and look for relevant independent evidence without assuming it exists. If support is insufficient, narrow or remove the claim and document the correction. Retraction does not automatically prove the opposite hypothesis; it changes what the available evidence can support.

Removing a citation without reviewing its dependencies leaves an unsupported claim. Preserve the change history and restate the conclusion according to the evidence that remains usable.
