GHRP-2

GHRP-2 is a synthetic peptide investigated as a growth-hormone secretagogue. In rat pituitary cells in vitro, its functional pattern resembled GHRP-6 and differed from GHRH. This classification makes it neither growth hormone nor a fragment of it.

Mechanism described in the literature

In primary rat pituitary cells, GHRP-2 and GHRP-6 showed cross-desensitization while retaining a response to GHRH. This supports shared receptor mechanisms for the two GHRPs in that system without establishing equivalence of all their properties.

What cross-desensitization means

The experiment compared secretory responses after different stimuli. Shared desensitization helps examine common signaling components. Interpretation depends on the cell system and experimental order; it is neither a direct affinity measurement nor a universal potency ranking.

A different model: thermal injury

In thermally injured rats, GHRP-2 attenuated changes in muscle protein-degradation markers and protein-breakdown measurements. The induced catabolic state is integral to the finding. It cannot be transferred to healthy muscle or described as general muscle growth.

Expression and degradation must remain separate

Muscle research measured both expression of selected ligases and protein degradation. These evidence levels complement rather than replace each other. RNA change alone does not quantify tissue loss, and a muscle measurement need not identify the endocrine signal explaining the whole response.

Is GHRP-2 GHRH?

No. They are different entities whose response patterns were distinguished in the pituitary study.

Do thermal-injury data describe healthy muscle?

No. They concern an induced injury and catabolism model in rats.
