Selank: research reference
Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide formed by the tuftsin fragment extended with the stabilizing Pro-Gly-Pro sequence. In research models, it has been described as acting on neurotransmission pathways associated with monoaminergic systems and neurotrophic factor expression. It has been investigated in models of exploratory behavior in rodent studies.

Mechanism described in the literature

Reconstitution: Laboratory procedure: allow the closed vial to reach room temperature, disinfect the septum and slowly transfer the diluent against the inner wall of the vial. Do not shake; gently swirl the vial until fully dissolved. Record the volume, diluent and date in the batch log.
Storage: Sealed vial of lyophilized material: store at −20 °C, protected from light and moisture. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles of reconstituted material; aliquot when the experimental design permits.
Personal protective equipment: Handle in a clean work area with a lab coat, nitrile gloves and eye protection. Dispose of vials, tips and sharps according to the laboratory waste procedure.
Selank, tuftsin and related fragments
Selank is the synthetic heptapeptide Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro, corresponding structurally to tuftsin extended with Pro-Gly-Pro. Their relationship is structural kinship, not interchangeable names for one ingredient.
Selank must also be distinguished from Gly-Pro, examined separately in preclinical research. Comparing the materials can investigate the fragment’s contribution without proving equivalence to the full peptide or showing that a fragment mixture reproduces its behavior. Frontal-cortex gene measurements
The 2016 study measured a panel of 84 genes by real-time PCR in rat frontal cortex, comparing Selank and GABA at two observation times. Seven genes were excluded from further analysis because mRNA signals were too low.
Expression profiles correlated positively at the first observation and negatively at the second. Initial similarity was therefore not constant. Transcript abundance is not a direct measurement of neurotransmitter release or neuronal electrical activity. Sources: PMID 26924987.
GABA binding differs from gene expression
A 2018 publication used radiolabeled GABA and brain-cell membrane preparations. In vitro binding changes were compatible with allosteric modulation, with concentration and receptor-subtype dependence proposed.
Combined responses with some tested compounds also differed from a simple sum of individual responses. This supplies specific molecular evidence without establishing one exclusive receptor explaining every Selank finding or synergy in a commercial combination. Sources: PMID 30255741.
Why the spleen was also studied
Another experimental line measured C3, Casp1, Il2rg and Xcr1 genes in mouse spleen, comparing Selank and Gly-Pro by real-time PCR over the experiment.
The animal study found similarities between several peptide-response profiles and oscillating Casp1 behavior with Selank, proposing a possible fragment contribution to the full compound’s response. It neither establishes a brain mechanism nor supports describing all findings as general immune enhancement. Sources: PMID 24291245.
From experimental material to catalog product
The research uses defined tissues, membrane preparations and experimental materials. Selank identifies the studied ingredient, but the name alone does not equate those preparations with a commercial vial.
