Following a molecule across documents requires two descriptions: its structure and its origin. 'Endogenous' places a molecule within an organism; 'recombinant' describes a production route. Neither word alone specifies sequence, processing or formulation. An analogue introduces another question: what changed relative to the reference structure, and how was that change established?
A reading case: what to check
Suppose one paper uses a recombinant protein and another a tissue-derived preparation. Before combining their results, create a row for each preparation and compare identity, accompanying components and assay. Do not equate the samples merely because they share a hormone name, or declare them different solely because of production method. Equivalence requires evidence relevant to the research question.
What to preserve in the record
If any of these fields differs between documents, keep them as distinct materials until the comparison is justified. A production method does not replace structural identification.
