What HPLC purity does and does not measure
An HPLC area percentage describes the distribution of integrated signals under a method. Using it requires knowing what was measured and how; it does not automatically become peptide mass, identity, sterility or activity.

Ask about the denominator
Find which areas were included and which peak was assigned to the component of interest. A percentage without a chromatogram, conditions or integration criterion leaves interpretation incomplete. Extra decimal places do not repair a missing definition of the measurement.
Separation and detection have a specific scope. If two species are not distinguished under that method, one apparent signal cannot be assigned entirely to a single species by visual inspection alone.
Case: ranking suppliers by 99.1 and 99.3
Do not conclude superiority from the numerical difference alone. Check whether the same quantity, suitable methods, integration criteria and traceable samples are being compared. Then consider available uncertainty and whether the difference matters to the assay. A commercial ranking does not replace that assessment.
From chromatogram to material quantity
Determining content by mass may require other measurements and a defined calculation basis. The NIST reference examines traceable purity assignment as a metrological problem; it does not support a percentage for any Asciende product. Keep content, identity and impurity profile as related but separate questions.

When to leave the decision open
Do not turn an area percentage into mass percentage without a supporting method. An absent peak does not establish absence of every impurity.
Questions and answers
Does 99% by HPLC mean 99% of the vial mass?
Not necessarily. Relative area and mass fraction are not the same quantity; consult the result’s definition and method.
Does HPLC establish sterility?
No. A chromatographic profile does not replace a specific microbiological determination.
